Every day the last couple of weeks I have had 2 - 5GB less free space, despite actively removing about 40GB of photographs from Photos. But the space available, as indicated by the value at the bottom of a system window, never increased.

When my free space began to fall under about 190GB on a 1.12TB drive, I started to move older files to external drives, or delete them. Primarily what is perplexing and caused med to write in is the unexpected values regarding disk space and usage, and for that I'm posting 3 png-files (1) WhatFile data (2) screen grab of my home folder windows with disk usage info, and (3) about this mac/storage info. The info about fusion and disk life is noted. Otherwise I stress how great the new disk is - Photoshop, for example, opens in about 20 seconds instead of 3 - 5 minutes. So my question is, apart from is it non-smart to fuse that way, are there any bugs in Catalina regarding data counting, or what am I missing that I did not count manually. And, for example, I moved a folder with 70GB out of my internal hard drive to an external (HFS+) drive the other day, and deleted it from the internal drive, and the space available (the figure at the bottom of a finder window) did not move at all, just stayed around 150GB free. We are talking a difference of around 200GB. When I manually count disk library, system, users, and applications, I also come to 747GB. When I open a folder, with the sidebar showing, info (cmd+i) for Macintosh HD indicates 966GB used and 143GB free, while WhatSize 7.4.1 indicates 747GB used. All seems to be fine except for one thing, and that is conflicting values around disc space.

I fused the drives because (1) I could not find any url saying not to (2) the convenience of only having to relate to a single drive instead of 2 and (3) 1.12TB is better than 1.0TB.īelatedly, I would like to ask smarter, more experienced people here if there are downsides to fusing two SSDs, for example if the fusion software was intended for one SSD and one HDD and is not really meant for 2xSSD. I upgraded from 10.14 to 10.15 at the same time, and after fusing the drives, made them APFS. What I also did was to combine the two discs into a new fusion drive, now both SSD in their own ways. I did replace the drive and it really gave the machine a new lease of life. At the time, every single mouse click would bring the spinning coloured wheel. 2014 Mac Mini 2.8GHz 8GB Fusion drive with original PCIe and Samsung 1TB SSD.Ī month ago, in thread 251192223, I asked about replacing the original HDD with a Samsung 1TB SSD drive, and received excellent help.
